March 2025
B2B Marketing Manager
Our mission is to improve everyone’s relationship with their wealth: to make it a positive force for their future and at the same time to prevent it being a source of anxiety. We want everyone who works at Saltus to be proud to work here, and to derive fulfilment and meaning from their work.
We are a successful, privately owned, LLP, with offices all over the country, including in London, Bath, Bristol, St Albans, Farnham, Whiteley, Penarth, Truro, Hereford, Kegworth and Bournemouth. We have a strong, dynamic culture where everyone feels part of a team and where people can have fun and grow in their career, while demonstrating a passion for excellence and customer service.
Why Saltus?
Today, Saltus manages and advises on over £8 billion of client assets. The company is growing very rapidly and has not finished its trajectory.
Saltus is an independently owned financial planning and discretionary investment management house. We are committed to providing a high-quality service for private clients, trusts, and smaller institutions.
Saltus Partners was founded in 2004 and has grown organically and through a small number of carefully integrated acquisitions. Originally the business started out as an investment management firm and has developed the financial planning side of the offering, now putting this at the forefront of the client relationship. In 2022 we launched the Saltus Partnership Programme, as our first foray into offering a b2b service (essentially the business gives mid-sized IFA businesses the opportunity to leverage Saltus finance, technology and operating support). In 2024 we acquired the Abacus group of companies, now branded as Abacus Associates, Abacus Advisers and Duchy IFA. These companies provide services to smaller IFAs.
Saltus has an extremely successful marketing and sales programme for its b2c activities. Starting from scratch in 2021, the team refreshed the brand and has put in place a new client generation capability that starts from our content strategy. We have allied this to a range of digital capabilities, including SEO and online promotion. These have benefitted from outstanding results: web traffic tripling in three years, four new channels generating new clients and a promotional campaign that has created unique properties to name just a few outcomes. Saltus works with a suite of agencies to help us achieve our goals.
The opportunity is to extend this capability to our b2b businesses, which currently have a predominant sales focus.
What does this role look like?
We are recruiting an ambitious and high calibre b2b marketing manager to be attached to our London office, whilst benefitting from a hybrid working environment. We expect the successful candidate to already show potential and having accumulated experience to quickly become b2b marketing director, effectively acting autonomously with authority.
The person will be supported by our experts and agencies, particularly as they build experience. We anticipate that initially the person in this role will participate in managing a marketing executive with a couple of years of professional experience.
Marketing is a central function at Saltus (like IT and finance), but the successful candidate will work closely with the operating teams at SPP and the Abacus group of companies. They will need to spend perhaps one day a week or fortnight in the business unit office. The role will report to Matthew Batstone, a 30 year experienced marketing and strategy professional at a number of organisations, including J Walter Thompson, Carlton and The Economist Group.
The key areas of responsibility are as follows:
- Finalising strategy
- Agreeing goals and objectives
- Developing plans and budgets
- Creating measurement and reporting metrics
- Redeveloping websites
- Developing a PR campaign
- Assisting the sales team at conferences and other recruitment events
- Trialling the generation of client leads for the Abacus adviser community
- Putting in place brand guidelines
- Creating supporting marketing collateral
What sort of person are you looking for?
The successful candidate will enjoy the financial sector, be interested in how it is evolving and be able to communicate this enthusiasm to colleagues and our existing and prospective advisers and clients.
They will:
- Have approximately 7-8 years of experience in a b2b business which values marketing, ideally working in a marketing role
- Have a degree level education with a minimum 2:1 grade
- Have some experience in managing suppliers and agencies
- Be entrepreneurial…
- …and ambitious, be willing to muck in on the dull stuff (getting content approved by compliance) as well as the glamorous stuff (formulating, presenting and agreeing strategy and implementation)
- They definitely must be able to get on well with a range of people and respect and nourish our culture, which is very important to us
- (Ideally) have some background in articulating a proposition, building associated collateral, including websites, and supporting sales teams with other collateral they might need
- Be comfortable working in digital environments
- Be able to work to deadlines
- Be an effective communicator to internal audiences, both verbally and in writing.
- Be organised and able to prioritise and manage workload.
- Be a team player.
- Value attention to detail.
- Take a critical approach and always look to learn and improve.
- Contribute to a fun environment in the workplace.
